What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word tenacity?
Dictionary.com defines the word tenacity as the quality of holding fast or holding together firmly. Synonymous with persistence and determination.
The first thing I think of is the strength of a baby’s grip. The fact that an infant has the physical strength to hold fast or firmly before it can even hold its head up is amazing to me. God designed us in a way that we would have the strength to endure our trials way before any of our trails begin.
The second thought I have when I hear the word tenacity is of my Godmother Oprah Gail Winfrey. I think of how she was born into poverty to a teenaged single mother and managed to become North-America’s First Black Multi-Billionaire. Not only did Oprah beat the odds, she believed in the possibilities of tomorrow. More important, she reached back to help others to ensure her tenacious legacy would continue by founding Oprah’s Angel Network in 1998.
At no point in life should you accept limitations!
Oprah not only endured the hardships of poverty, but she was also molested as a child and became a mother at the age of 14 that she later lost in infancy. She did not let that stop her. At 17 while still in high school she landed her first gig on the radio and by the age of 19, she was co-anchoring the evening news. Her authentic delivery was better suited for the daytime talk show arena. (Took real for the news sis got fired) After making the transition from the evening news to daytime talkshow she boosted the number three station to number one. Following her success, she launched her own production company and became internationally syndicated.
What if she would have given up on her dreams after her first set back? I mean, she was born as a setback. But that did not keep her from reaching her dreams. She was also born with the vice grip like all babies she was born with tenacity etched into her DNA.
So ladies, take a note from Oprah:
trip, fall, stumble even get fired, just don’t quit!
Be bold. Live out loud & as always remember,
